Anti-aging Pumpkin Spice Mask

Pumpkin: It’s not just for Starbucks lattes anymore! Puréed pumpkin is an incredibly effective ingredient when it comes to anti-aging DIY skincare. According to the International Dermal Institute, pumpkin is a natural exfoliant, helping slough off old skin cells and helping to regenerate new ones. If you want glowing skin, skip the starbucks and whip up this anti-aging pumpkin mask.

When your goal is anti-aging, you want to speed up the skin’s natural process of cell regeneration. Old, dead skin cells not only dull the complexion but can also cause blockages in pores leading to blemishes. Double whammy. It normally takes about 28 days for the skin on your face to create new cells and for the old ones to die off and fall away. Pumpkin contains fruit enzymes, alpha hydroxy acid, and vitamin A (aka ‘retinoids’) that actually break down the “glue” holding those pesky old cells together on your face, and allowing them to fall away naturally. When you’re done, you’re left with a bright, clean, refreshed skin surface!

It’s important to moisturize that new layer of skin to make sure to combat any crepey-ness or excessive dryness. That’s why we added in the ingredient of yogurt which is an intense, deep moisturizer as well as containing lactic acid which assists the pumpkin in exfoliating those old cells. We’ll take all the help we can get, right?

And finally, a pinch of cinnamon helps soothe and smooth any irritation you might be experiencing. Cinnamon, besides smelling yummy, is a natural anti-inflammatory. It also increases circulation, helping to promote the formation of collagen which helps reverse wrinkles!

You’re glowing, pumpkin!
