Ah, acne. Nature’s cruel calling card that always seems to show up right before a social event, a picture day, a big meeting, or a hot date. And it’s not just for teenagers. Most adults still get acne well into their 30’s and 40’s (you’re not alone!).
Waking up to an inflamed, red pimple is no fun at all. To make matters worse, the harsh drying creams that are supposed to help pimples you get over the counter or from dermatologists can actually irritate your skin further, causing more dryness, more build-up, and…more acne!
Luckily, you probably already have these ingredients in your pantry that, when combined, are acne-kryptonite. Whether you are going through a breakout or trying to prevent one, whip up this easy DIY mask to zap those zits and get on with your life!
About the Ingredients
A key reason our face breaks out is due to lack of moisture. Yes, even if you have “oily” skin! We get oily because our skin feels like it has to over-produce moisture to combat drying agents and the environment.
Avocado is one of the most nourishing, mild moisturizers you can find! The good fatty acids and vitamins found in avocado fruit penetrate deep into the layers of the skin to nourish and moisturize.
Green tea is loaded with anti-oxidants that help fight free-radicals like dirt and grime that can get trapped in your pores and cause breakouts. It is also anti-inflammatory and helps reduce redness caused by acne.
Raw honey is another excellent natural moisturizer while having the added benefit of being a natural anti-bacterial agent. Honey goes deep into pores and cleans them out, eliminating harmful acne-causing bacteria.
Cinnamon is another awesome anti-inflammatory that calms and soothes any irritated areas of the face. Adding this spice can help reduce the appearance of pimples by bringing them down in size and getting rid of any angry red spots you might have.
