How To Achieve More Youthful Skin

As part of your body’s natural defense system, your skin bears the brunt of years of wear and tear, and it’s often one of the first parts of the body to display signs and symptoms of aging. We all long for youthful, healthy-looking, glowing skin, but how can you turn back time? If you’re looking to preserve your fresh-faced complexion for as long as possible, here are some tips.

Protect your skin in the sun

Exposure to harmful UV rays is one of the most significant risk factors for skin damage and premature aging. If you’re on vacation, you’re heading to the beach on a sunny day, or you’re spending a well-earned day off in the garden, make sure you protect your skin. Apply sun lotion to every body part, and reapply if you’re swimming, or you’re out in the sun for a long period of time. It’s best to avoid the midday sun when the UV rays are at their most potent and to move into the shade as quickly as possible if you do feel your skin start to burn. Experts recommend using sun lotion throughout the year. If you wear foundation on a daily basis, it’s a good idea to buy a product with UV protection.

Stay hydrated

Hydration is essential for smooth, soft and supple skin. If you are dehydrated, your skin will start to dry out and look brittle and flaky. Aim to take at least 2 liters of fluid on board every day, and increase the amount of water you drink if it’s hot outside or you’re working out. When you sweat, you lose fluid, and you need to replace it to prevent dehydration. If you’re prone to dry patches, look for skincare products that will hydrate and nourish your skin.

Think twice about taking drastic measures

We all strive to maintain our youthful looks for as long as possible, but aging is an inevitable process. We live in an age where glossy magazines and social media feeds display images of flawless skin, and this creates pressure. If your skin isn’t perfect, you might feel like you have to take drastic action and start exploring avenues like cosmetic surgery or invasive anti-aging therapies. Before you make any decisions, research procedures and watch surgery videos. It’s crucial to make sure that you’re doing what is best for you and that you understand the risks. You should never feel pressured to have treatment. There are non-invasive anti-aging remedies available, and it’s wise to explore all the options on the table.

Prioritize rest and sleep

Did you know that a third of US adults don’t get enough sleep? A lack of sleep can leave your skin looking dull and increase the risk of under-eye bags and dark circles. Try and establish a sleep routine that enables you to get between 6 and 8 hours of rest per night. Relax and unwind before you go to bed, turn your bedroom into a tech-free, serene sanctuary and block out noise and light.

Get moving

Exercise is an effective way to boost skin health, as well as improving physical and mental wellbeing. When you work out, your circulation increases and this ensures that valuable nutrients reach your skin cells.
