What is Cucumber (Cucumis Sativus Fruit) Extract?

Great for: Anti-inflammatory, soothing, and refreshing properties

How it works: Cucumber extract contains minerals and mucins It can be used in emulsions on tired or stressed skin or in skin refreshing tonics for sunburnt skin. The extract contains several antioxidants including ascorbic acid, beta carotene,  caffeic acid, quercetin, apigenin, luteolin, and kaempferol. It also is high in minerals, potassium, and sulfur which help soften and hydrate the skin. A 2011 study found an emulsion with 3% cucumber extract had anti-acne benefits and decreased skin sebum content while increasing transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

Cucumber extract comes from the fruit of Cucumus sativus.

Cucumber extract is found in some commercial skin care products with soothing properties. Some examples include Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber De-Tox Balancing Essence Water Mist ($28) and SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel ($66).
